Next Toronto Girl Geek Dinner is June 25
Calling all Toronto Girl Geeks.
We're trying something a little different for next month's get together - we'll be in our own space at Fionn MacCool's, a pub at University and Adelaide. We're going to give this venue a try and see if it is better for networking and making connections in an informal atmosphere. We're also going to start at 7:30 p.m. to allow those who work outside the downtown core a bit of cushion for travel time.
We're marking our first year of Toronto Girl Geek Dinners and know our community is something special. Jenny, Maggie and I had rethink about Toronto Girl Geek Dinners during our hiatus. We'd love to hear from you and get your input on some topics posted for discussion over at the TGGD Facebook group.
Our speaker for the next TGGD is Jayne Hoogenberk, an expert in developing and nurturing online community. As the online community manager for eHarlequin.com, Jayne has been active in the online community space for more than 11 years and is an avid user and early adopter of "social media" and a seasoned netizen.
I was fortunate to sit with Jayne at a Geek Dinner last year, and over three tasty courses was blown away with her willingness to share, sense of humour, and her depth of experience and track record of creating and growing online communities.
Jayne has migrated eHarlequin's community 4 times. She has orchestrated and survived 5 upgrades and 2 platform changes with her hair and most of her membership intact. She spends her days directing her host moderators, chatting with her constituents and plotting the strategic vision for Harlequin's online community. She is a passionate advocate for the adoption of online communities and discussion spaces, as well as the creative utilization of fur. Jayne lives in Oakville, ON with her two daughters, one large hairy yellow dog and a fluffy orange tabby cat.
Our sponsor is the Social Media Group, one of the world's leading social media consulting firms. Our very own Maggie Fox is founder and president and writes up a storm over on their blog.
Cruise on over to the wiki to sign up to participate on the 25th. Don't forget to hit up the TGGD Facebook Group, give us some love on your blogs, post some tweets and help us get the word out about the event on June 25.
